Hip Bump Sweep: Sit-Up Sweep from Closed Guard
Esta página aún no está traducida; mostrando la versión en inglés.
The hip bump sweep, also called the sit-up sweep, reverses a partner in your closed guard. You sit up, trap one arm, then bump your hips up and forward into their chest so they fall to the trapped side and you land on top.
The hip bump sweep is a simple, powerful sweep for closed guard. You sit up quickly, trap one of your partner's arms so it cannot post, and drive your hips into their chest. Because they cannot catch themselves with the trapped arm, they fall over and you end up on top.
When to use the hip bump
Try it when your partner kneels upright, with their weight a little back on their knees. In our classes we often see students try the bump while their partner leans forward. That makes the move much harder, so break the posture and let them sit back up first. A quick sit-up often forces that reaction.
Key details
- Sit up fast with one hand posted behind you and your head close to their chest.
- Wrap the other arm around their arm on the same side, pinning it against your body.
- Open your guard and place your feet near their hips for extra push.
- Bump your hips up and forward, then turn your shoulders and fall toward the trapped arm.
How to drill it
Start with only the sit-up and arm wrap, without the bump. Repeat ten times so the hand posts and the wrap feel natural. Then add a slow bump and let your partner fall softly. Next, try it against a partner who leans forward, so you learn to choose a different attack when the bump will not work. Always roll through with control.
Common mistakes and safety
A common mistake is bumping straight up, which just lifts the partner instead of tipping them. Think forward and over. Another is forgetting to trap the arm, which lets your partner post and recover. Practice at a gentle pace, and finish by following them into mount. Always train with a qualified instructor and mind your partner's head when you roll through.
The hip bump pairs well with the scissor sweep from closed guard. Try both in a free trial class and learn how a sweep turns defense into attack.
Paso a paso
Break their posture
From closed guard, pull your partner forward, then sit up quickly with one hand posted behind you.
Trap the arm
Wrap your free arm around their arm on that side so it cannot post.
Open the guard
Unlock your legs and plant your feet close to their hips.
Bump forward and up
Drive your hips up and forward into their chest, not straight up.
Turn and follow
Turn your shoulders toward the trapped arm and fall over with your partner.
Climb to mount
Land on top, free your legs and settle into mount or side control.
